ER 2010 solicits proposals for panel sessions related to the conference topics about which there is controversy and thus a need for public discussion. Panel proposals should specify the questions/issues the panel will discuss and should include a list of proposed panelists. We strongly encourage panels that have a mixture of academic and industry panelists, and where possible, an international representation. We expect that a range of viewpoints will be represented in the panel session. The role of the panel moderator is to state the initial relevant issues and moderate the panel session. Each panelist will then make a short presentation of his/her position. The moderator will then direct a discussion/debate among the panelists and encourage audience interaction. The moderator should manage the time so as to allow for ample audience participation.
Although not mandatory, for ER 2010, we also encourage panels to be organized according to the rules of the Octavian circle. That is, a round table discussion is to be organized with 8 (Octavian) people and other attendance will be listeners. Only those people in the round table can talk. The talk time is restricted to 3 minutes. If a person in the round table feels that he/she cannot or should not make any further contribution to the discussion topic, then he/she leaves the round table and becomes a listener. One listener can now replace this panelist. Questions from outside the round table can be forwarded through the moderator. The moderator cannot leave the round table and is considered as one of the 8 people on the panel. His/her contribution is limited to 1 minute. The first two rounds of the panelists are pre-selected. However, this does not mean that this will be the order of making contributions.
Panel proposals should be submitted by email to the ER2010 panel chairs:
- Bernhard Thalheim (
thalheim@is.informatik.uni-kiel.de). - Michael Rosemann (
m.rosemann@qut.edu.au).
